Midway between Calgary and Edmonton in the province of Alberta,
Sylvan Lake is the home of the longest maintained ice skating trail in North America.
In February 2006 the 10-kilometer trail will play host to races and tours that are expected to
attract hundreds of European skaters in addition to many Canadians and Americans.

- History
At the founding event in February 2004, nearly 200 skaters participated in a 10-km tour at Sylvan
Lake plus 50 km and 200 km races. Skaters raced under a replica of the famous Bartlehiem bridge
(photo below), a landmark on the route of the legendary Elfstedentocht canal-skating race in the
Netherlands.
