About MSI

Updated August 3, 2008

Marathon Skating International is an ad hoc collection of speed-skating enthusiasts from three U.S. states (Vermont, New Hampshire and New York) and three Canadian provinces (Quebec, Ontario and Alberta).

All of us are passionate skaters and have a history of involvement in organizing races and skating clubs.

Our common goal is to encourage participation in races on outdoor ice. To this end we have cometogether to do the following:

  • Provide this website as a portal through which interested skaters can find all the informationthey need about scheduled races and other events.

  • Provide computerized chip-timing at races in our area, thus ensuring accurate lap-counts,reducing the demand on volunteer resources, and enhancing these events with a measure of professionalism.

  • Organize new races so as to make an exciting and varied schedule through the winter, accessible toskaters at all levels throughout our region.

  • Promote participation by the members of our various clubs as well as by anyone who might be temptedto get out there and give it a try.

MSI SERIES
All skaters registered in at least one race will be included in the series. The series includes a number of races, but only those of 25, 40 or 50 kilometers count towards the points totals. For example : If 12 races are run during the season, only your 7 best results will be considered. Points are calculated by the following method in this file: Résultats 2007-2008.
At the end of the season, the winners’ names (men and women) of each age class will be inscribed on the Series trophy. Also, event organizers will use these results to award medals and prizes at their individual events. Please refer to the season schedule for more information.

Important Notice:
MSI wishes to advise all visitors to this site that ice skating can be a dangerous activity and can involve the risk of personal injury and/or death and/or property damage. All skaters are therefore put on notice that they undertake this activity of their own free will, and that they assume full responsibility for their own acts. MSI accepts no responsibility for any of the risks mentioned above.

MSI is not a race organizer; its goals, summarized above, are to introduce the sport of ice skating to the general public. Individual race organizers have Waiver/Release documents which they require to be signed by all participants. MSI has no control over these documents, which are the sole responsibility of the respective race organizers.
